From the award-winning creator of Gender Queer and an exciting new voice in graphic storytelling comes Opting Out, a thoughtful and timely coming-of-age story about identity, friendship, and growing up in a world that often feels defined by binaries.
The novel follows Saachi, a seventh grader navigating shifting friendships, changing expectations, and questions about identity. As those around her begin to focus on relationships and fitting into traditional roles, Saachi finds herself resisting the pressure to define who she is within a world of “either/or.” Through storytelling and self-discovery, she begins to carve out a path that feels true to her.
Honest, heartfelt, and deeply relatable, Opting Out explores the complexities of growing up, the discomfort of change, and the power of creating your own story.
